Break 80 Update: Week #3 – Swing Path

Week 3

Working On: Swing Path

To recap my Break 80 challenge, the first two weeks I concentrated my efforts on the impact position (releasing the club and contact). I have seen both improve by practicing the slap hand and two tee drills. This week I am focusing on my swing path. I really believe that if I can get my path inside-out, I will be much more consistent and hit the “go to” draw I’m looking for. For the first 2 weeks, my path has been mostly outside-in and this has cause my shots to miss the green. I need to consistently swing inside-out to make the necessary improvement to reach my goals.

Checklist

In my practice sessions, I will be looking for the following:

  1. Swing Path on average Inside/Out

  2. Swing Path Perfect Inside/Out 80%

  3. Clubface square to Open 2˚

  4. Swing Speed does NOT decrease

Below is the checklist I will be using to check and see if the Left Wrist Drill is helping my swing path. ClubClubface Correct (Less than Open 2)Swing Speed Correct (65 & 75)Swing Path Inside/OutPerfect Inside/OutWhite Zones +/= ( 9 & 5) 9 Iron 4 Iron

After 5 days of drilling my inside swing with the “Left Wrist” drill I came away with a few positives and a few negatives. Positives

  1. The drill changed my swing path to slightly inside out. GREAT!!!

  2. I became very accurate with my 9 iron on the last 3 days.

  3. Shots are consistently on the left side of the pin.

  4. I had 20 of 25 shots inside 30 feet on multiple days.

  5. My clubface angle became very consistently closed less than 2 degrees on most shots.

Negatives

  1. I hit 19 out of 25 shots off the toe the last day (I did not check the other days so it could have been more)

  2. I hit a ton of fat shots, especially with my 4 iron

  3. My tempo slowed to 1.1 and even 1.2 on days (Not sure what to make of this)

Overall

Just thinking about trying to get my left wrist flat really helped my swing path. It was not easy at first but as I got to days 4 and 5 I really saw positive results. This drill completely changed my swing path to slightly inside out. I did not get to the 80% inside out shots but I am hoping that will improve with the next drill I use which also targets swing path.
